Yesterday, Mark Byrnes of The Atlantic Cities did the same — only with all of downtown. Byrnes, a fellow at The Atlantic and graduate student at the University of Baltimore, compared a late-1800s map of Atlanta to the present day. Map lovers and history buffs will walk away wanting more, but it's worth a look.

Thanks for the link! The massive interstate interchange is mind boggling when you consider its impact on the downtown.
If you really want to nerd out on this stuff, check out this amazing web page. But be prepared to spend hours on it!!

two excellent links.
And ya, can you imagine what kind of city Atlanta would be if the connector and 20 never ran through it? Both what would the city be like livability wise, and economically. Amazing.
@zedsmith. I know what you mean. And just imagine if Freedom Parkway was the Intestate it was going to be and 400 continued all the way down to 675 as they originally planned. Unimaginable.
The links, especially the Time Machine, blew my mind. Wow. I'm gonna spend all day looking at these pictures which isn't good -- I've got a feast to prepare. Oh well.
