The railroad tracks in the foreground are now underneath the viaduct at the modern intersection of Peachtree St. and Wall St.The two-story building on the left-foreground replaced a concert hall.
The small two-story building on the right is the Georgia Railroad Bank building.
Several wagons are travelling north on Peachtree Street and one is turning left onto Marietta Street at Five Points.
UPDATE, 4:42 p.m.: Due to some confusion about which photo the historian was discussing — he sent several — I mislabeled the photo. Details have been corrected.

This is awesome. I just watched the animation about 10 times. It makes me want to go see the Civil War documentary at the Kennesaw Mountain visitor's center and learn about stuff.
Speaking of: why is there no downtown branch of the Atlanta History Center allowing people who are in the actual spot where this stuff went down to learn about the history behind this photo? Oh, that's right -- Civil War history is painful and volatile. Well let's just play it safe, then, and turn as much of it as we can into parking lots and decks. That's the best idea.
There should absolutely be a downtown branch of the Atlanta History Center. How many tourists are able to make it up to West Paces Ferry? The Buckhead complex is nice and gets the job done, but it's not centrally located. I'd visit a history museum before I ever set foot in a "museum of health" or sports hall of fame....
