I'm sure all the Grinches who think government "doesn't work," is bloated, or is too big will call this a waste of government resources.
Likewise, there will be Scrooges who believe that government has no business devoting so many resources to a religious holiday.
To both, I say, "Get Whacked!" (see below)
For me, the NORAD Santa Tracker has become an annual tradition.
This year, the fully interactive Web site features a countdown clock, dozens of games (including Whack a Grinch!), as well as an FAQ section that includes answers to questions like "Does Santa visit everyone (i.e. Afghanistan, Israel, non-Christian countries)?", and the "Operation Good Will" page "to help our fans learn how they can connect and give back to those men, women, and children who selflessly serve and support our nation to ensure the future of our country’s freedom."

For 2011, NORAD has upped it's game with an iPhone app, Facebook page, and a Twitter feed.
As for WHY NORAD, that is to say, the North American Aerospace Defense Command, is in the business of tracking Santa, that story on the site too.
