State Sen. Vincent Fort, D-Atlanta, the rabble-rousin’ lawmaker who’s one of the left’s most vocal champions under the Gold Dome, says he’ll miss the opening of the legislative session next year to treat because he’ll undergo treatment for prostate cancer. Reports the AJC:

Fort, 55, who represents parts of Atlanta and East Point, said doctors told him he had cancer during the summer and he’s optimistic treatment will be successful.

“I can call myself, in a little while, a cancer survivor,” Fort told Channel 2. “That’s the title I want.”

Fort, if you recall, was arrested alongside more than 50 Occupy Atlanta protesters at Woodruff Park in October. He’s also scheduled to rally with the leaderless group today to raise awareness about Georgia’s foreclosure laws.
