Onstage Atlanta presents Merry Little Holiday Shorts (through Dec. 18 on the Studio Stage), a collection of eight short plays about the season. In addition to "Dreidel" by Evan Guilford-Blake, the evening features "Oy Vey Maria" by Mark Harvey Levine, "The Christmas Fruitcake Caper" by Shirley King, "Squishy's Christmas" by Greg Abbott, "The Brown and Serve Nativity" by Abigail Taylor, "Rebel Without a Claus" by Daniel Guyton, "Mrs. Claus Gets Menopause" by Daniel Guyton and "To Grandmother's House We Go . . . Against Our Better Judgment" by Greg Freier. I think it's safe to assume the titles indicate the level of holiday reverence. Onstage Atlanta also presents the family show Scott Rousseau's A Miracle on Elf Street.
Stone Mountain's ART Station tunes into The Christmas Report (through Dec. 23), a new musical with book and lyrics by artistic director David Thomas and music by Patrick Hutchison. Bryan Brendle, Keena Redding Hunt, Tracy Vaden Moore and Googie Uterhardt star as a team of news correspondents who pursue seasonal news in the community of Mt. Stone.
And the live-radio performance stylings of The Atlanta Radio Theater Company (through Dec. 18 at Academy Theatre) hark back to local-style celebrations with An Atlanta Christmas, by Thomas E. Fuller, adapted by Daniel S. Taylor which uses the holidays to evoke memories of the ATL's past.
