Actor's Express has announced a high-profile replacement for its 2011-2012 season, adding The Motherf**ker with the Hat and dropping Tennessee Williams' The Night of the Iguana. Motherf**ker drew attention earlier in 2011 not just for its conspicuous title, but because comedian Chris Rock made his Broadway debut in the Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre production from April of this year. Playwright Stephen Adly Guirgis, author of the excellent Jesus Hopped the 'A' Train, penned the confrontational drama about drug dealers and infidelity.
According to an e-release by Actor's Express artistic director Freddie Ashley, "The Night of the Iguana was to be a co-production with Theater Emory. Due to recent unforeseen changes, Actor's Express and Theater Emory will no longer be able to produce The Night of the Iguana together. We are happy to let you know, however, that Theater Emory will mount its own production of The Night of the Iguana." The Motherf**ker With the Hat will run from March 15 to April 14. Here's a montage of clips from the Chris Rock production:
