Newsdome: John Boehner is the Grinch

John Boehner
>> Though the Senate has already passed a payroll tax cut, the House of Representative Republicans can't agree on an extension and everyone is blaming John Boehner. If they can't get their act together, Republicans will cause tax raises and cuts to welfare and unemployment benefits just after Christmas. And they wonder why the congressional approval rating is at an all-time low. (Politico)

>> Iranian officials announced that they have captured an American spy on Sunday named Amir Mirza Hekmati. Though Hekmati was a former Arabic translator for the Marines and now works as a contractor for a company that serves the Marines, the U.S. government says he is absolutely not a spy. What would give Iran that crazy idea? (CNN)

>> AT&T will no longer buy T-Mobile after the Justice Department said the merger would violate anti-trust laws. AT&T now owes T-Mobile's parent company Deutsche Telekom $3 billion. Breaking up is hard to do. (the New York Times)

>> The Vatican has proclaimed Kateri Tekakwitha as a Catholic Saint, the first Native American to be canonized. Tekakwitha died at age 24 in 1680 but wasn't deemed a Saint until a 5-year-old prayed to survive a strep infection in 2006 and survived. The Saint of Sinuses. (USA Today)

>> And finally, it's the War on Christmas (TM): In 2009, the town of Leesburg, Virginia, had to stop their annual nativity scenes on public property because of the separation of church and state. Pro-nativity groups cried "freedom of religion" and the county decided to allow religious displays on a first-come, first-served basis. Now winter solstice displays, Santa Claus mounted to a cross and a nativity scene from the Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster ("Touched by an Angelhair") will be on the courthouse grounds. Don't you love freedom of religion? (the Washington Post)

And now for the truth on the payroll tax debate:

The bill passed by the Senate extends the tax break for a completely arbitrary and utterly pointless TWO months while the Repubs in the House want to make the extension last for one year.

Its questionable wether it is wise to make a big issue out of this but the Republicans are right (correct) on this issue.

I wonder how many hours a week and per month, Boehner has to be under a tanning lamp to keep his tan so perfect. Just seeing him is appallingly. He is so obviously arrogant, shallow, hateful, malicious nasty and egotistical that he is a severe impediment to our nation. I don't think he has the intelligence to realize the destructive harm he is inflicting on us.

The year - long extension is not what's driving the republicans on this. It's how to pay for it that's at issue. Republicans want to freeze federal wages & the Dems want to pay for it with a surtax on millionaires.

But a very creative re-writing of the news, Atlately.
