The person who says he or she mailed PARKAtlanta a check with several pleasant notes and doodles earlier this month — pictured above — claims the private parking company returned it, which resulted in a $29 fee.
We asked a city spokeswoman if PARKAtlanta has a general policy about returning checks. She said that banks would return checks if the person's account has "non-sufficient funds." If PARKAtlanta returned the payment, it'd also include a letter explaining why. But without more specifics, she couldn't comment on the doodler's situation.
The check writer, who posted the image on the Atlanta subreddit with his or her identifying info blanked out, admits that PARKAtlanta might have been confused by the misspelling of "douche bags."

I wonder if anyone sells checks with a steaming-poo-pile graphic printed on them. Those could end up being popular. Mood checks.
Well, seeing as Park Atlanta displays the level of responsibility of a 5 year old when writing tickets, I feel like an 8-year old-level response is warranted.
I wish I wrote them a lot- I would order a pile of poopoo checks. hahaha But I am going to draw some major dooky swirls on the ticket I just got in Atlantic Station. If I was single, I'd send naked pics of myself to this person and take them out to dinner. But probably only once
I received a ticket on 11/8 from ParkAtlanta in error and appealed via their website on 11/9. I still haven't received a response.
I fucking hate these thieves
OH MY GOD I LIVE IN A REAL CITY AND HAVE TO ACTUALLY PAY FOR PARKING WHAT'S THIS WORLD COMING TO AAAAAAA
OH MY GOD THE RULES FOR PARKING CHANGED OVER NIGHT AND ARE ONLY ENFORCED WHEN THEY'LL GENERATE REVENUE NOT WHEN PUBLIC SAFETY IS AN ACTUAL ISSUE. NOT TO MENTION I'M A JACKWAGON THAT DOESN'T REALIZE THAT TYPING IN ALL CAPS IS F'ING RETARDED AND DOESN'T EMPHASIZE MY POINT ANY BETTER THAN A WELL WORDED RESPONSE.
I am about to take the fuckers to court and unwind their their contract.
Curious whether the folks who troll this blog will view this as an affront to the City's right to lie, cheat and steal, which CL seems prepared to defend unto its death.
Holy shit this is funny. A good minute or two of doubled-over, tears-in-my-eyes laughter. Maybe I'm an 8-year-old as well for finding this so entertaining.
I don't think parking should be free, and it really isn't-- even at stores, hotels and other places where there isn't a nominal fee attached, the cost is being passed off to you through the price of the good or service. It is. But at the same time, I do believe the rules should be clear and everyone should have equal opportunity to follow the rules. When I have to park at a metered space I will get back in the car and move to another location if the multi-space meter machine isn't working on a given block (which happens more often than it should)-- I simply don't trust these people to do the right thing and check to make sure the meter is operational before giving a ticket. Let there be no mistake that privatizing parking enforcement is basically an abdication of due process and a city's basic civic obligations of fairness to its citizens to a for-profit company operating on the sneakiest and shadiest of business models.
The issue isn't privatizing parking enforcement but rather the company and the sweetheart deal Shirley Franklin gave before she left office. This was one of Franklin's boneheaded ideas to generate revenue before she left office. In addition, this was part of her neck rolling strategy when the Atlanta City Council stood up to her and told her to cut the budget rather than raising property taxes. The unfortunate problem is the type of contract that was written that costs the city millions to break and the council members who simply passed this without doing their homework (remember Franklin had a voting bloc that did anything she did without question).
Until more business owners and residents get in the city's ass, ParkAtlanta is here to stay. Blogging, facebooking and tweeting about it doesn't help. Fire off nasty e-mails, cc the media in them, bombard the council members at their town hall meetings, make them address the issues without the ease of their talking points about the issue and so on.
I think this is great. Park Atlanta have cited me for parking on a sidewalk when I was CLEARLY in a parking lot. This resulted in a $100 ticket that I have been disputing (with no response). They also ticked about 5 other cars at the same location at the same time for the same thing when they were also in the parking lot. I've lived in Atlanta my whole life and have never had such issues with the parking in the city until Park Atlanta came around. I can see why they would receive such grand artwork on the checks they receive. Its hilarious and well deserved. People are frustrated with these scammers. The city did not do their homework and the citizens are angry (and coming out of pocket). I cant wait to practice my doodling skills on any future ticket that I may receive (and did NOT deserve). Thanks for the idea!
