Looking for an excuse to stop working? Take shelter in a new Facebook photo album featuring snapshots of construction along the Atlanta Beltline's Eastside Trail expected to open this April. Crews are busy building retention walls and supports along the 2.5-mile trail which, once complete, will snake between Piedmont Park and (just short of) DeKalb Avenue. (Revised trail plans call for ending the path near Irwin Street until the Edgewood Avenue bridge is demolished and reconstructed, which should take place between 2012 and 2014. Once the bridge is in place, trail work will continue to DeKalb Avenue.) The next big obstacles: Finishing a new bridge over Ralph McGill Boulevard and repairing the bridge spanning Ponce de Leon Avenue — a task which might require the partial closure of the busy street. Progress ain't pretty!

I hope you're right, zed -- but I think Fiasco is.

They did run into to major issues and delays recently so I would be betting it would be delayed some. But it will be done and will be awesome!

I attended the last quarterly briefing and asked what they were going to focus on next. They said the next part of the trail under construction would be the section through Renoldstown to Glendwood Park. The section North of Monroe next to Piedmont Park would not start construction for 4 -5 years.
