Norcross's Lionheart Theatre and Avondale Estates' Academy Theatre observe the 100th birthday of iconic Southern playwright Tennessee Williams with The Kindness of Strangers. Five Atlanta writers explore the life and themes of the famed writer in seven new short plays. In addition to an epilogue, the plays in question include Brian Bannon with "The Number 27;" Greg Carraway with "Night of the Mockingbird;" Daryl Fazio with "Objects are Alive;" Nick Boretz with "Hello from Melanie" and "Incident on Nightmare Road;" and David L. Fisher with "Cocktails at the French Embassy" and "Cerulean Door." The cast consists of Jackie Estafen, James Beck, Daryl Fazio, Richard Blair, Alan Phelps, George Deavours, Marcelo Banderas, Judith Beasley, Amy Cain, Gina Guesby, Bridget Shepard, Allen Stone, James Connor, Susan Moss, Josh Nunn, and Tony Larkin.

Having played Jan. 6-8 at the Lionheart Theatre, Kindness of Strangers runs Jan. 12, 14 and 15 at the Academy Theatre, 119 Center Street. 404-474-8332. academytheatre.org

Incidentally, in 2001 I wrote an essay for Creative Loafing about Williams' work and its relationship to the South.
