Democratic Party of Georgia's response to Deal's State of the State address

Posted by Thomas Wheatley on Wed, Jan 11, 2012 at 2:57 PM

After posting the governor's entire speech last night, it's only fair to give the minority party a chance to respond, especially since we're a bunch of biased liberals! In the 3:30 clip, Democratic Party of Georgia Chairman Mike Berlon chides Deal for proposing cuts to the corporate tax and urges the governor to restore funding to education.

I'm disappointed he didn't drive the fact that the business tax cut is being done while republican proposals seek to put more of the tax burden on the middle tax and poor via reinstatement of the General Sales tax on groceries and funding of transportation via the uber regressive transportation sales tax since the state is underfunding transportation.

He also should point out that the business tax cut based on exempting energy consumption by businesses from sales taxes runs counter to our goal of improving the trade deficit and thus economy by weaning our dependence on foreign oil.
