ABC News has released Brian Ross' much-anticipated sit-down interview with Marianne Gingrich, the former wife of the GOP presidential candidate. And it's a doozy. Ross reports:
In her most provocative comments, the ex-Mrs. Gingrich said Newt sought an "open marriage" arrangement so he could have a mistress and a wife. She said when Gingrich admitted to a six-year affair with a Congressional aide, he asked her if she would share him with the other woman, Callista, who is now married to Gingrich.
"And I just stared at him and he said, 'Callista doesn't care what I do,'" Marianne Gingrich told ABC News. "He wanted an open marriage and I refused."
Marianne described her "shock" at Gingrich's behavior, including how she says she learned he conducted his affair with Callista "in my bedroom in our apartment in Washington."
The incidents occurred, Gingrich's ex-wife says, while he was knocking former President Bill Clinton for his alleged sexual peccadillos.

What!?! A hypocritical politician who was unfaithful to his wife? What's next on CL's agenda, the truth behind the Easter Bunny?
Sadly, this kind of stuff is no longer shocking. The real doozy is the fact that a significant amount of Americans are thinking about electing NEWT F*CKING GINGRICH AS PRESIDENT!!
Damnit! Come on I want Newt to win South Carolina! Though its ok, Newt's found god an repented for his past sins so all is forgiven...Right Right?
Did you all see the Daily Show last night - man Romney and his Bain capital...if we elect him we as a nation are just dumb ass stupid oblivious to the fleecing of the economy that these private equity folks have been and still are getting away with while enjoying preferential tax treatment. How do we all not recognize how these folks are making so much cash? This is NOT a healthy part of capitalism. This is a pariah to a properly functioning capitalist system and Romney wants to extend even greater tax cuts to the pariahs.
Well, to give newt credit, at least he was trigger up with his wide about what he wanted. Sounds like something Dan savage would advise, IMO. Newt is an iconoclastic "ideas man" after all. ;)
This one was a doozy.

dude's an egomaniac, he would be a terrible president

haha this is an excerpt from a speech the day after newt told marianne he wanted a divorce
“When a liberal talks about values, will he or she actually like us to teach American history?” Gingrich told the women’s group. “Will they actually like young people to learn that George Washington was an ethical man? A man of standards, a man who earned the right to be father of this country?"
Newt doesn't sound much different than Bill Clinton, but Newt sounds like he had more courage than Bill Clinton.
Of course, the media gave Bill Clinton a free pass then and continues to do so today, CL Atlanta included.
"Newt doesn't sound much different than Bill Clinton, but Newt sounds like he had more courage than Bill Clinton."
how so? because he admitted to his wife that he had a mistress and if she didn't like it she was out? because he divorced his previous two wives after they were diagnosed with expensive medical conditions? at least the clintons are still married. are you saying divorce is the courageous option?
"Of course, the media gave Bill Clinton a free pass then and continues to do so today, CL Atlanta included."
no they didn't. he was raked over the coals
what definition of 'free pass' are you using here because having your marital infidelities be part of a global six-month news cycle doesn't seem to fit the bill
you're just trying to shift the blame which is cowardly. we're not talking about clinton, we're talking about gingrich. cut it out
"Newt doesn't sound much different than Bill Clinton, but Newt sounds like he had more courage than Bill Clinton."
Oh come you are being sarcastic right? a Free Pass? Thats all we heard about! Newt like Clinton? One word Hypocrite. Are you ignoring how how Newt incessantly threw stones for the very sin he committed? As seen in the quote provided by Eric he bashed liberals for lack of moral character? Look liberals don't play the holier than thou card so of course when you got a guy being critical of a lifestyle and he's living that lifestyle it takes it to a different level.
"Oh come you are being sarcastic right? a Free Pass? Thats all we heard about! "
republicans have selective memory about this stuff
oh larry craig the homophobe got caught picking up dudes in an airport bathroom? it's ok because bill clinton, liberals
mark foley voted for anti-gay legislation and then got caught sending sexual texts to underage male pages? whatever, it seems like you forgot about bill clinton
remember how george rekers testified in multiple courts that gays were unholy criminals, then he got caught with a rent-boy 'masseuse' during a two week stint in europe? nah, it's not as bad as how the media never made a peep about bill clinton
generally you can tell how intellectually deficient someone is based on how hard they try to evade the negative consequences of someone on 'their team' without actually looking at the facts at hand
bill clinton has nothing to do with why newt gingrich is a serial philanderer
"bill clinton has nothing to do with why newt gingrich is a serial philanderer"
True, though I personally don't believe that anyone owns the rights to what is marriage or what is cheating. Granted there is something universal about the trait of loyalty and standing by a loved one when they are sick or need help (something Gingrich seems to have failed).
So its not that Gringrich cheated, or Foley, Rekers, Craig and Bishop Long liked men, its that they openly threw stones against a lifestyle that they themselves were living.
I have a big enough problem with politicians defining what is moral, what is marriage etc. etc. but when they spew those words while living differently how does one NOT come to the conclusion that they are liars? There's nothing more dangerous than a liar telling me what's moral and not moral and making laws based on his hypocritical statements about morality.
@ eric pfeifer and InAtl
I don't condone what either Newt or Bill did, and they are no different from millions of other people.
I don't like Newt and I don't trust him, but (if the report is correct) he at least had the guts to confront his wife. If you will check, Bill Clinton continued to lie to his wife (and the public)until he ran out of wiggle room. He was then raked over the coals publicly, and since then has gotten a free pass from an adoring media, as if the episode had never occurred.
But, what Bill Clinton did was far worse than what Newt did. I don't care who each was sleeping with and what they told their wives. But Bill Clinton was President at the time and he made himself a sitting duck for blackmail as he tried to wiggle and parse his words to get out of a tight spot. The entire country was at risk as he publicly writhed. God knows what deals he cut as he tried to avoid telling the truth.
"I don't like Newt and I don't trust him, but (if the report is correct) he at least had the guts to confront his wife."
after he had been cheating on her and lying to her, and when he gave her a choice of accepting a mistress or divorce
that's not courage, that's disrespect
"He was then raked over the coals publicly, and since then has gotten a free pass from an adoring media, as if the episode had never occurred."
except for media sources which are more ideologically amenable to you, which bring up clinton's free pass any time the sexual morality of a republic is publicly questioned
Cheating on a wife for 6 years and sleeping with the mistress in the bed your wife sleeps in is more noble than getting a blow job once or twice? Don't really agree with that, but again the affair part isn't what bothers me the most.
First time I've heard the national security argument - think that's a little bit of a stretch - but OK its possible. Problem is Newt was a leader in congress at the time and since he was 6 years and running without telling his wife don't you think his affair was a greater security threat?
@ InAtl
I didn't say that Newt was noble - I said that he had more guts. Bill Clinton lied until he had no more room to lie.
No, I think that Bill Clinton was by far the greater risk. Who has more power - President Obama or Rep. Boehner? Easy answer.
If you believe the reports, Bill Clinton lied to his wife a lot longer than 6 years. But, whether it's 1 year or 6 years, it's still the same lie.
noble, gutsy ok here: Cheating on a wife for 6 years and sleeping with the mistress in the bed your wife sleeps in takes more guts than getting a blow job once or twice? WHOA!!!!!!!!!! WOW you are right he did have more guts. To lie like that for so long and bring your mistress to your own bedroom takes way more conniving and hutzpa than Clinton had. Though I don't think that's a good thing.
lord though really you've managed to avoid the more salient points. That being that NEWT was a fucking hypocrite!
I can get down with open marriages. That's the kind of arrangement that needs to be worked out before swapping vows and shit like that, though.
"the media gave Bill Clinton a free pass then and continues to do so today"
Uh, did you miss Clinton's entire second term or just the last 2 years of it? He was persecuted ENDLESSLY for cheating on his wife by a man who has cheated on his wife multiple times. Bottom line: Newt's serial philandering and hypocrisy is absolutely fair game & he deserves every bit of the ugly scrutiny he is getting.
Blood: Why is the scrutiny ugly? Are you one of the politically correct who is not comfortable with the facts?
@ bloodgimp
Bill Clinton hasn't exactly been consigned to the dustbin of history by the media. Do a Google News search on him and you will see thousands of recent posts. Check the Democratic-oriented blogs and websites (and most of the US media) and you will find him in the news as the Godfather of the Democratic party. He's the big campaign fund raiser, other than the President. Plus he has his shills like Stephanopoulous and Carville active in the media.
it's too bad nobody ever talks about the time he had an affair with whatsherface, that chick? miranda something? hey CL editors, i sense a ripe story here. you should scoop the lamestream media, because i'm pretty sure that old billy likes to sleep around. it would probably be a pretty big deal if the president cheated on his wife in the oval office. might get you a lot of press
"Plus he has his shills like Stephanopoulous and Carville active in the media."
if only they had an entire cable news channel devoted to partisan propaganda. now that would be something, wouldn't it?
i mean like a whole top to bottom 24 hour cable news network designed entirely to shit-talk or dick-suck the establishment, depending on which faction was in charge at the moment
how come nobody's thought of this yet? imagine the money you could make, telling geriatric paranoiacs exactly who is out to get them that day? you could make a killing on marketing boner pills, amish space heaters, and caribbean vacations alone! not to mention the kickbacks you would get from shadowy PACs pushing the scary browns angle. because we all know that people with heart conditions love cheating death by being constantly frightened by the lightning box. thank god they're all on public health care
"Bill Clinton hasn't exactly been consigned to the dustbin of history by the media."
Yeah, he's a former president.
