Tonight at Emory, Atlanta dance critic and KSU instructor Cynthia Bond Perry will be in conversation with the woman The New York Times has called “one of the most sumptuous modern dancers of her day," Rina Schenfeld. The event is the first in a series of conversations taking place for off the EDGE, Atlanta's new week-long dance event.
Schenfeld was a founding member and principal dancer of the Batsheva Dance Company from 1963 to 1979, and in 1979 she founded the Rina Schenfeld Dance Theater. She's worked with many of the most central figures in contemporary dance, including Martha Graham and PIna Bausch, who will be the focus of tonight's discussion entitled "Martha and Pina." At 73, Schenfeld continues to create, teach, and perform extensively both in Israel and around the world.
The conversation will take place tonight, Wednesday, January 25, from 7:30-9 pm in the Presentation Room (Room 311) of Emory's Oxford Road Building, 1390 Oxford Road. The event is free to the public and includes free parking.
off the EDGE culminates this weekend with free performances by Atlanta-based artists in Woodruff Park and a mixed program by distinguished visiting companies on the Rialto stage. The final event of off the EDGE will be a free performance by Rina Schenfeld at the Goat Farm, 1200 Foster Street, at 6 pm on Sunday, January 29. For more information on these and other off the EDGE events visit the event website.
