Pollster predicts GOP nominee will be… a loser

Posted by Scott Henry on Wed, Jan 25, 2012 at 12:01 PM

This may sound naive, but I confess I haven't been good about watching the Republican primary debates because, honestly, I don't believe the eventual GOP nominee — no matter who it turns out to be — stands much of a chance of defeating President Obama this fall.

Apparently, I'm not the only one. Veteran politician, political operative, pollster and semi-endearingly

A new poll says says the GOP cant beat Obama.
  • Joeff Davis
  • A new poll says says the GOP can't beat Obama.
self-promoting pundit Matt Towery recently published a column in which he essentially trashes his own party's field of candidates.

In a piece titled, "Regardless of nominee GOP candidates are failing the faithful," here's his take on the front-runners:

Mitt Romney: Too cool for school. He is above us all ... wealthy, powerful and affronted by the fact he needs the conservative faction of his party because he assumes they will follow him to defeat Obama if he lands the nomination. No, Mitt, they don’t like you, and unless you quit being so arrogant, they will supply you with just enough of the vote to ... lose.

Newt Gingrich: The smartest man in the room ... just ask him. Gingrich is a conservative, but he is captivated by the Washington, D.C., establishment. He’s really never met a smart person who lived outside of Washington. And he has allowed his wife to become an issue in the campaign. She is the most seen, least liked candidate’s spouse in recent memory. All unfair to her, but all as a result of Gingrich’s silly making. She should have been Nancy Reagan, not a topic for abuse.

And yes, Towery goes on to skewer Ron Paul, Rick Perry, and Rick Santorum. Though he doesn't come right out and say it, the conservative columnist basically says this crop of candidates can't beat Obama.

I wonder how big the paycheck is for stating the obvious.

I mean, would ya look at the GOP contenders? I am no pollster, nor obama fan, but REALLY? That's the best of the best for Conservatives? Wow!

Romney will lose the nomination and will be sentenced to a life of firing people, which is apparently the only thing he knows how to do.

romney is the only choice. gingrich is the only other viable candidate but he has way too much baggage to appeal to independents. romney might appeal to independents, depending on how much money he can shovel at anti-obama tv ads

fact of the matter is, this election is all about obama, not about romney or gingrich. basically the rich white guy can only hope that america hates him less than the black guy

"Romney will lose the nomination and will be sentenced to a life of firing people" and paying a lower percentage rate in taxes on his income than most or perhaps paying nothing if Newt is elected.
Yep, its a tough life being a private equity vulture!

Oy, you maybe right but if you are and Romney is our Prez your checks only coming if you are in the top 1%. Otherwise its you who'll ultimately be writing a check.
