APD officially closes Stacey Nicole English investigation

Posted by Gwynedd Stuart on Tue, Feb 14, 2012 at 4:20 PM

Stacey Nicole English disappeared under peculiar circumstances. During the days before she was reported missing by her parents, friends say she'd been discussing the end of the world, quoting bible scriptures and insisting someone was trying to hurt her; she'd uncharacteristically left behind her purse and iPad; and when her car was found abandoned in Southeast Atlanta on December 27, it was still running. And on January 25, her body was found wedged beneath a tree not far from where her car was discovered.

But, today, the Fulton County medical examiner's office determined that foul play was not a factor in English's death, and that she likely died from hypothermia from exposure to the elements. From a statement:

"The most likely cause of Stacey English’s death is cold exposure (hypothermia) complicating underlying neurological and psychiatric disorders.

Because cold exposure is an external, environmental condition, the manner of death has been classified as accident."

The Atlanta Police Department, which was investigating the possibility that English's death was a homicide, subsequently closed its investigation:

As a result of the findings of the Fulton County Medical Examiner’s Office and the investigation conducted by the Atlanta Police Homicide Unit, the Atlanta Police Department will be closing the case into the death of Ms. Stacey Nicole English. There will be no further statements issued in relation to this case and we will not be conducting interviews.

English was 36 years old, and had an apparent history of psychological and emotional troubles. Her mother told police when she went missing that she'd previously attempted suicide in 2008.

I'm not so sure this should be closed but so be it. This is a real tragedy. This looked like a very nice lady and her family seems real nice as well. Sorry for them and hope you guys can find some strength. Losing her is the worst for a mom and dad. God Bless You.
