News First Slice 2/21/12: Firefighters want cheating scandal investigated

1. The Atlanta Firefighters Union has asked Mayor Kasim Reed to request an investigation into the cheating scandal in which firefighters were supposedly given answers when taking the 2010 lieutenant promotional exam. The first question to which I would need the answer? "How do you spell 'lieutenant'?" (Thank you, copy-paste function.)
2. Atlanta-based Home Depot 4th-quarter net income rose 32 percent, capitalizing on good weather ("chore time!") and "improving services such as online shopping and customer service." Well. That's innovative.
3. The Atlanta strip club Magic City is worried that its reputation will suffer because of a fatal shootout at a teen club by the same name in Augusta last month. I know this club, by reputation. I was running downtown last week about 6 a.m. with a homeless vet (BOMF Atlanta, good cause, join up). We were finishing up our morning walk-run, and the gentleman I'm running with points at the busses unloading at the MARTA Garnett Station, and then points across the street at Magic City, and says, "First place you go when you get off the bus! That's just good marketing!" Point being, they have a brand, and I agree this incident is responsible for some brand leakage.

And of course the Reed administration is ignoring the request. Just like the white wash done in the police department when a Major let the mayors brother drive away on a suspended license. But dont worry this mayor and his administration is open and honest!!!!

Why does it seem like fire departments get into so many of these lawsuits?
Maybe CL could do a feature on why it is that firefighters file so many lawsuits against each other.....is it just a question of having time on their hands? Is there something special about the promotion process? Is Atlanta's fire department any different?

it isn't a matter of public record when these things happen at private firms
Why so much news about the fire department test scandal and so little coverage of the Parks Department's inept handling of child molestation allegations?
