Guy Pearce gives 2023 TED Talk for ‘Prometheus’
Clever clip provides context for this summer’s ‘Alien’ prequel.
On June 8, director Ridley Scott returns to the setting that helped launch his feature filmmaking career with Prometheus, apparently a prequel to Alien. Somewhat cryptically, Scott describes the film as being separate from the events of the previous movies, but sharing “strands of Alien’s DNA, so to speak.” The Prometheus teaser trailer is moody but a little vague, while a newly uploaded clip cleverly provides some context. In the form of a TED Talk, Guy Pearce plays a corporate tycoon who describes his company’s ambitions for the future. Close watchers of the Alien franchise will recognize that Pearce’s name, Peter Weyland, has a connection to the sinister future corporation Weylund-Yutani. In the clip, that he anticipates a new technology that comes to fruition with characters played by Ian Holm and Lance Henricksen in the earlier movies. This clip apparently won’t appear in Prometheus itself, but the cast also includes Noomi Rapace, Michael Fassbender, Idris Elba and Charlize Theron.
