Local child abduction attempts rampant

Atlanta Police have released a composite sketch (see right) of a man who attempted in late February to abduct a 13-year-old boy from a MARTA stop in Northwest Atlanta.

Here's their synopsis of the incident:

A short time after midnight on February 26th, 2012, Atlanta Police responded to the report of an attempted kidnapping that occurred at the MARTA bus stop near Hollywood Rd and Johnson Rd. Upon arrival officers spoke with the 13 year old male victim who advised that he was at the bus stop when an unknown black male pulled up in a purple four door car and began talking to him. The male then exited the vehicle, grabbed the teen and attempted to pull him into the vehicle. The teen pulled away and the male ran back to his vehicle and fled.

Then, yesterday morning, some local neighborhood listservs were lighting up about another attempted child abduction in Lake Claire. An anonymous mother wrote:
"

I feel sick. Some creep just tried to pick my daughter up off the street on her way home from the bus stop! He's in a big silver car. If you live in my neighborhood, be aware! She ran and he tried to back up to block her. Luckily, another car came and he couldn't keep going."

Last night, Atlanta police sent out their own release:

On [March 12] around 4:10pm a 12-year-old female was walking in the area of Connecticut Ave and New York Ave when a silver SUV pulled up beside her. The driver asked her if she needed a ride and she replied no. The girl quickly walked away from the vehicle and noticed that the driver put the vehicle in reverse and attempted to follow her. The driver then drove away when other vehicles approached the location. The vehicle is described as a newer model silver compact SUV possibility a CRV, Rav-4, Escape. The vehicle did not have any aftermarket wheel or rims. The driver was described as a black male with a medium brown complexion, clean shaven, heavy set, in his early thirties. The driver was wearing a white tee shirt and a baseball cap.

Remember this attempted abduction at a Bremen, Ga. Walmart in early February? So scary. Luckily it was caught on tape and the suspect, Tommy Woods, was arrested ...
