Metro Atlanta Arts & Culture Coalition CEO Flora Maria Garcia will leave the organization after nearly five years to head up United Arts of Central Florida in Orlando. She starts her new position May 29. From the Press release:

UACF is a private nonprofit composed of a collaboration of 164 businesses, 8 governments and school districts, 38 foundations, more than 50 arts and cultural organizations, and 3,188 artists and individuals. The partnership works to enhance the quality and variety of cultural experiences throughout four counties. Since its inception in 1989, United Arts has invested more than $117 million in local cultural organizations and cultural education. The agency has an approximate budget of $6 million, and a staff of six.

During her tenure in the Metro Region, landmark legislation focused on significant, long term, funding for the arts in Georgia was introduced. Flora Maria worked closely with the cultural community, not only in the metro region, but in the state on focused advocacy for the arts. In May of 2011, she was awarded The Spirit of Will Award by Georgia Shakespeare, for community building and arts advocacy in Georgia. She was able to position arts and culture as an industry which plays a major role in economic development.

During the past year, she and the MAACC staff partnered with the Atlanta Regional Commission conducting major research on Creative Industry data and co-hosting public forums on the value of arts and culture in economic development, regionalism, education and quality of life. Plans are underway to conduct the first regional cultural master plan, through the ARC.

No news on who will fill her shoes.
