Art Papers, the internationally-focused, locally-based arts magazine, announced today that longtime editor-in-chief and executive director Sylvie Fortin is leaving the publication. In her stead, former Creative Loafing arts critic Cinque Hicks will serve as interim editor-in-chief. The magazine will be seeking to fill both the executive director and editor-in-chief positions vacated by Fortin. ArtsATL suggests that the magazine may move to be more explicitly engaged with the Atlanta arts community, which perhaps differs from the editorial mission that Fortin lays out in the Art Relish interview above.

Art Papers Announces Search to Fill Executive Director and Editor-in- Chief Positions(Atlanta, April 25, 2012) - Art Papers Board of Directors is seeking new leadership dedicated to dynamic international coverage of contemporary art while acknowledging the organization's Atlanta base which has been so important to its success over its remarkable 36-year history. Sylvie Fortin, who has served the organization as Editor-in- Chief (2004-2012) and Executive Director (2007-2012), is leaving Art Papers to pursue other professional opportunities. Ms. Fortin will assist former Board member Cinque Hicks, who will take over as Interim Editor-in-Chief, during a transition period.
"The Board thanks Sylvie for her service in enhancing the publication's international coverage and AP Live! lecture series while managing the organization through the recent recession," said Board President Robert Brawner. "The Board is energized to bring in new leadership and again divide the key management responsibilities between an Executive Director leading the overall organization and an Editor-in-Chief focused on the creative leadership of Art Papers magazine and related programs.
"Art Papers offers an amazing platform for the right creative professionals who can further the organization's mission," added Brawner. "We're financially sound, with a diverse and supportive Board; strong financial support from artists and patrons through our successful annual auction; and key grants from the National Endowment for the Arts, the Warhol Foundation, and other public and private organizations."
Mr. Hicks takes on this important responsibility as a published writer, award-winning blogger, and recent recipient of a Creative Capital/Warhol Foundation Art Writer's Grant. He brings twenty years of book publishing experience to the position. Mr. Hicks has served as a director of the Art Papers Board since 2009, but has temporarily resigned from the Board to take on this interim role. "We're pleased to bring in someone as talented as Cinqué to help us with this transition," said Board Treasurer Louis Corrigan.
Art Papers' Board sees significant opportunities to expand and enhance the organization's programs and is eager to announce the new Executive Director and Editor- in-Chief by this fall.
