The Straight Jacket monster truck catching some serious air in Vidalia, GA.
April 28, 2012 - Around springtime each year, Toombs county and the tiny town of Vidalia, Georgia (about a three-hour drive south from Atlanta) come alive with the harvest of the region’s most famous export, and Georgia’s Official State Vegetable since 1990, the Vidalia Sweet Onion. To celebrate, Vidalia (pronounced “vie dale yah” by the locals) has been throwing a citywide party for 35 years. This year, it happened over the weekend of April 26-29th: Monster trucks, a “world famous” onion eating contest, the Miss Vidalia Onion Pageant, a battle of the bands, Civil War reenactments, and more were spread out all over town for four days. Every small town in America celebrates a homecoming of sorts, but only one of them gave birth to the Vidalia Sweet Onion.
