Early morning assault at KSU draws comparisons to intown abduction attempts

A female Kennesaw State University student was assaulted — initial reports indicate sexually — outside a dorm as she walked to her car at around 6 this morning. The suspect has been described as a black male with dreadlocks, a ski-mask, and a silver late-model Honda, leading some nervous intowners to wonder on blogs and neighborhood listservs if it could be the same man responsible for the two recent abduction attempts in Southeast Atlanta.

The victims in two Wednesday morning kidnapping attempts also described their perpetrator as a black male with dreadlocks. (Granted, there are a lot of people who fit that description.) In the first incident, a woman was approached on the front porch of a home in Edgewood and forced into the trunk of the man's car, but was able to escape after the man had driven a few blocks. In the second incident, the man approached a woman who was walking to her car in Reynoldstown, and attempted to force her into his trunk — punching her in the mouth several times — but was unsuccessful.

Police released a composite sketch of the suspect in the Edgewood and Reynoldstown attacks yesterday.

A friend of the victim in the first abduction attempt — who wishes to remain anonymous, at least until the suspect is apprehended — contacted CL and wanted to clarify that her friend was not dragged off the porch by her arms and/or hands, rather, she was "grabbed by her shoulder and forced at gunpoint to walk up the street to where his car was parked, and then forced into the trunk at gunpoint."

She also says her friend suffered a sprained wrist and road rash when she escaped the trunk of the suspect's car. She says they've both been "encouraged by the level of urgency with which [Atlanta police] seem to be handling this case."

More details on all three incidents as we get them.
