First Slice 5/27/12: Why does Google hate the Confederacy, hmmmm?

Posted By on Sun, May 27, 2012 at 9:20 AM

1. State Sen. Don Balfour, R-Snellville, the powerful chairman of the upper chamber's committee that decides which bills live or die, has promised to push for a $100 cap on lobbyist gifts — and requiring the Legislature to be subject to Georgia's Open Records Act. (Request to read your local state rep's and you'll get denied.) How will life change for Balfour, who last year enjoyed about $22,000 in free concert and event tickets over the last six years?

2. Add the Georgia NAACP to the list of groups opposing the regional transportation tax.

3. Google Earth blurs the Confederate General Memorial carved into Stone Mountain. Is this a massive conspiracy that involves to Goldman Sachs and the Denver International Airport? We will say yes. (H/T Atlanta subreddit)

4. Is your dog missing? Do you live near the Spaghetti Junction? Have you seen the video of a dog running around the northbound lane of I-85 near the chaotic interchange?

5. If you've not yet read the weird and wacky story of Senate Majority Leader Chip Rogers' pre-Gold Dome days, you really, really need to. (Here's the Cherokee County Republican's side of events.)

6. Another day, another story discussing the fate of the Citizen Review Board, the citizen watchdog panel that handle complaints of police abuse.
