The fifth annual Caribbean Carnival packed itself into Auburn Ave. this Saturday. The 75/85 underpass billowed with smoke from dozens of vendors grilling all kinds of traditional caribbean meats. Typical fried festival food was in abundance as well. Four blocks of vendors sold art, jewelry, bootleg CDs, Bob Marley apparel, and a lot of other cheap stuff. It wasn't until the parade the things really kicked off. Starting at the Civic Center, it made its way down West Peachtree and hung a left on John Wesley Dobbs, where it arrived at Fort Street, intersecting at Auburn Avenue. Hundreds of performers were dressed in traditional Caribbean carnival outfits. It was apparent that they were all exhausted by the walk and the unforgiving heat, but that didn't make their arrival any less sweet. Following the parade were hundreds of people looking to enjoy the festival's activities.
