Georgia State unveils $80 million athletics master plan

Posted By on Fri, Jun 1, 2012 at 11:40 AM

Georgia State University yesterday released its grand master plan for new athletics facilities, including a renovated basketball arena and soccer and volleyball complexes. "By building top-notch venues for every sport, Georgia State can recruit the best student-athletes and help them develop into champions," the university said in a statement. "These new facilities will also enhance the game day experience for students, alumni and fans by moving the venues closer to the Georgia State campus and providing first-class amenities." The school hopes private donations will help pay for the projects. University officials have not yet purchased land for some of the new facilities but want the venues to be located as close to downtown as possible. The Panthersville Recreation and Athletics Complex located 10 miles away in DeKalb County hosts most of the school's athletics, except for the basketball and football teams, which play downtown and in the Georgia Dome.
