Athens-based artist David Hale's work often combines images of animals and plants with intricate patterns that recall Native American sand paintings and sacred geometry. He's also a talented tattoo artist and the owner of Love Hawk Studio in Athens.

Hale's most recent body of work is a series of drawings that illuminate similarities between disparate mythologies and religious dogmas. Titled St. Francis, the show opens Saturday from 7-11 p.m. at ABV Gallery in the Old Fourth Ward.

Andrew Litten at ABV followed Hale around Athens for a teaser video for the exhibit. There's not much artwork in it but it is set to what sounds like a Portugese cover of Bowie's "Space Oddity." Check it out below.

For more of Hale's work check out his artist website and tattoo shop.
