The unexpected runaway success of the Metropolitan Opera's broadcasts to local movie theaters continues with a series of summer repeats on Wednesdays throughout June and July.
Since the first transmission in 2006, the Met's series of live opera performances transmitted in high definition via satellite has enjoyed enormous popularity, selling out popular performances, quickly increasing the number of screens and theaters, expanding into international markets, and inspiring a host of imitators. For those that have been missing out, the summer encores are a great way to catch up, beat the heat and check out some opera for a fraction of what it would cost to visit the Met in New York. The series showcases Met stars such as Renée Fleming, Anna Netrebko, Juan Diego Florez, and Joyce DiDonato. Participating Atlanta area theaters include Hollywood 24 at North I-85, Perimeter Pointe 10, and North Point 8.
