Free walking tour delves into the history of the Old Fourth Ward

On Tuesday, June 26 at 7:30 p.m., Atlanta historian and Georgia State professor Cliff Kuhn will provide a free walking tour of the Historic Fourth Ward. The tour will explore over a century's evolution in the neighborhood. Topics will include the emergence of Auburn Avenue as a hub of the African-American community, the Great Fire of 1917, the impact of highway development, and recent gentrification. The tour begins at 660 Airline Street.

The tour is designed to help give historical background for an unusual up-coming performance: For three hours on the evening of July 7, in an empty lot on Airline Street in Atlanta's Old Fourth Ward, New York-based performance artist Anya Liftig, blind-folded and bound, will attempt to climb an enormous barricade covered in peanut butter.

If you still find the piece's concept a little, uh, perplexing, on
Thursday, June 28 at 7:30 p.m at Whitespace Gallery, 814 Edgewood Avenue, Liftig will discuss the research and work that led to the creation of the project.

The performance itself takes place on Saturday, July 7, beginning at 8:30 p.m. at 660 Airline Street.

All of the events are free and open to the public. For more information, visit FLUX projects.
