First Slice 7/8/12: What to do about Medicaid?

1. Reason no. 3,452 to take MARTA to Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport: No one can steal your car's catalytic converter from the airport parking lot.

2. Supporters of the regional transportation tax that metro Atlanta voters will decide on July 31 want you to know the 1-percent sales tax measure isn't just aimed at relieving traffic congestion and building new transit.

3. While we're on the topic of transportation: Georgia will receive $2 billion over two years for road and transit maintenance under the federal transportation bill President Obama signed on Friday.

4. If states opt not to participate in the expansion of Medicaid, the Economist reports, 11.5 million Americans — more than the population of Greece — will be without healthcare. Georgia might wait until this November's presidential elections before deciding what to do. The state's top official in charge of the program says he'll be ready for whatever course the governor decides.
