According to project officials, folks will get a chance to see several designs which look at the project's potential "footprint" in the massive area under consideration, which sits next to Philips Arena. They'll also discuss the feasibility of making those designs a reality and the "process for terminal planning, public participation and next steps in the development process."
Speakers include: Jim Richardson of FIC-Forest City Enterprises, which, in cooperation with The Integral Group and Cousins, serves as the project's master developer; Ed Campbell of Parsons Brinckerhoff, which is overseeing the terminal's rail component; Rob Ross of Kimley-Horn and Associates, the bus and transportation network designer; and John Schuyler of Cooper Carry, which will oversee the project's architecture and urban planning. (FXFOWLE will help with urban planning and lead the station design).
If built, the terminal, which would accommodate bus, rail, and taxi traffic, would most likely create a new street grid that could help link downtown and Castleberry Hill. What will be very interesting: If developers are considering how a potential football stadium might factor into the design. In addition to a 28-acre site near Ivan Allen Boulevard and Northside Drive, the city, Georgia World Congress Center, and Atlanta Falcons are reportedly considering a fuzzy area south of the Georgia Dome to serve as the site of the new football arena.
The fun starts at 6 p.m. in the old Atlanta Journal-Constitution building at 72 Marietta St. The building now serves as offices for city departments, including the Department of Watershed Maintenance.
