First Slice 7/26/12: Fake pot raids

1) An Alpharetta business was raided by local police yesterday in the newest bout of the state’s (seemingly) endless fight to keep synthetic marijuana off store shelves. The move could disrupt the distribution of the kind-of-legal-kind-of-not 'drug’ all over the country. Evidently, Nutragenomics Manufacturing is a national distributer of ingredients used to make the concoctions.

2) Even with all the recent rain, the drought prognosis for metro Atlanta is still pretty, well, dry — especially just south of the city and elsewhere in the state. Augusta’s summer, for example, is one of the driest on record.

3) Atlanta police are investigating a shooting right outside our office doors. A man was found shoot early Thursday morning just outside Atlantic Station at 17th and State streets. Details are fuzzy.

4) Just as Gwynedd pointed out yesterday, gun stores around the nation have reported a surge in sales in recent times — even here in Atlanta. According to the AJC, exact figures on number gun sales were unavailable, but several locations reported a spike. The owner of Adventure Outdoors in Smyrna called this past Saturday a “phenomenal day,” having sold more than 200 firearms. Yee-haw.
