Atlanta Police have released store surveillance footage of three young men wanted for questioning in the July 26 shooting death of David McReynolds, 54, in Grant Park.
Residents in the area reported hearing at least one gun shot and saw three men running from the area. According to police, McReynolds was shot in the chest after he refused to give his attackers money.
Family members said they believed he was targeted.
McReynolds frequented the local grocery store on the corner of Ormond and Martin streets where he regularly played the lottery. The day he was killed he reportedly “hit the numbers real big” according to Angela Sheats who lived with the victim, and collected his winnings from the store.
Police found McReynolds lying outside a vacant house at the corner of Hill Street and Grant Park Place around 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, just blocks between his home and the store.
Neighbors expressed their disappointment on the Grant Park Neighborhood Association’s Facebook page about the lack of media coverage surrounding the shooting.
“When bartender John Henderson was murdered in 2009, the entire city was outraged. Before the trial that convicted John Henderson’s killer, dozens of gang members were arrested by a joint FBI and GBI task force.
It’s not likely that Sheila and Arthur Wallace [who lived with McReynolds] can afford to put up billboards in memory of David McReynolds. Publicity related to his death was scant at best; the news reports are already fading.”
If you have any information about the suspects, call the APD at 404-546-4235 or Crime Stoppers Atlanta at 404-577-TIPS.
