First slice 8/1/12: Well, trains and bike lanes might've been nice

1. The people have spoken. T-SPLOST went down like the Titanic, but, hey, BROOKHAVEN IS OFFICIALLY A CITY! Brookhaven Patch must be feeling awfully jaunty right about now.

2. Welcome to 2011, Cobb County. This calls for a toast with alcohol you'll eventually buy in a store on a Sunday in the not-so-distant future.

3. U.S. Rep. John Lewis was victorious against opponent and former Fulton County judge Michael Johnson, and was reelected for another term. Maybe those mug shot posters paid off. Or maybe it was the whole being-a-civil-rights-icon thing.

4. As all your Facebook friends who want to sound smart probably already informed you, author Gore Vidal has passed away at age 86.
