1) Fulton County voters are multiplying like rabbits — or at least their votes are. Turns out, according to the computer data, four Fulton precincts had more than a 100 percent turnout for the July 31 vote. And election results for some precincts continue to fluctuate even though all of the votes are in. Why, you ask? That’s a damn good question.
2) Drug traffickers and cartels like Atlanta due to our banging transportation system, according to Harry Sommers, head of the DEA’s Atlanta field office. Speaking at an “unprecedented” drug seizure by the DEA and the Fulton County DA last week, Sommers also said the confiscated heroin and crystal meth would have "obviously gone into the hands of children."
3) If the cartels heart the ATL because of transportation, it’s definitely not because of the traffic lights. Some of the cities biggest traffic headaches stem from an outdated signal system that lacks the ability to synchronize light-to-light. Estimates range from $35 to $40 million to get Atlanta up to speed.
4) Sentencing for the then 17-year-old Clayton County teen that shot and killed Deputy Sheriff Rick Daly in July of 2011 is scheduled for today. Richard Bun is looking at life in prison plus 70 years. The prosecution wanted to go for the death penalty, but couldn’t due to Bun's age at the time of the crime.
5) Georgia has the twelfth highest underemployment rate in the whole gosh darn nation at 16.4 percent.
6) A white inmate scheduled to be released from federal prison in 18 months earned himself an extra 20 years for a racially-motived attack on a black prison guard. Morgan Siler, 28, reportedly vowed to attack the first black guard he saw that day, and did.
