First Slice 8/24/12: 3D printing just got real ... dangerous

Sketch of child abduction suspect in Atlanta
1) The man that allegedly shot and killed former Georgia State University soccer player Ayokunle Lumpkin in southeast Atlanta earlier this week said he was acting in self-defense. A warrant has been issued for suspect Emery Parish and he's expected to turn himself in today, according to his attorney.

2) A pretty nifty invention has guns materializing out of thin air ... sort of. A Wisconsin engineer and amateur gunsmith recently used his 3D printer to, what else, print parts for the .22-caliber rifle he was building. His parts were plastic, but skeptics worry the rise in metal material available for 3D printers will lead to the creation of the first fully 3D printed gun sometime soon. Meanwhile, some gun-enthusiast groups push for it.

3) A seven-year-old in northeast Atlanta summoned her Hulk strength and fought off a would-be abductor last night. Police are still on the hunt for a suspect described as a roughly 50-year-old black male about six feet, one inch tall.

4) A crash on Ga. 400 early this morning left one dead and two injured, including morning radio show host Kelly Stevens of 98.5 WSB-FM.

5) Police "raided" Food Truck Wednesdays over in Virginia Highlands, issuing citations to five trucks for permit violations.
