Ben Venom's tapestries and quilts at Get This! Gallery, sound art at Beep Beep Gallery, and more this weekend in Atlanta art after the jump.
Friday

Atlanta artist Jason Kofke is planning a sailing expedition to the Arctic Circle (jealous) in this coming October. To help send him off with a little extra capital, Fallen Arrows is throwing him a pool party where some of his original drawings plus t-shirts and poster prints will be for sail (sorry couldn't resist that pun), from 7-11 p.m. at Fallen Arrows.
Jason Lescalleet, Justin Waters, and Kyle Sherill give a unique sound and visual performance piece tonight at 9 p.m. at Beep Beep Gallery. This avant-garde noise performance is about as artsy as it gets, don't make the mistake of playing the above sound sample with your computer's volume turned all the way up!
Saturday

Georgia State University grad Ben Venom has juxtaposed the very tranquil and antiquated act of quilt-making with the hardcore graphics and messages expressed in Heavy Metal. Using the graphics and texts off of metal band t-shirts and apparel, Venom creates quilts that would scare the panties off grandma. An opening reception for his newest creations I don't make mistakes will be held Sat. night at Get This! gallery from 7-10 p.m.

The Projectionist, originally released in 1970 and directed by Harry Hurwitz, tells the tale of a movie projector operator that has to sit alone in the projection room while everyone below him enjoys the film with friends or lovers. To help pass the time, the operator day dreams about being a superhero named Captain Flash, who battles his arch rival 'The Bat' played by Rodney Dangerfield. The show begins at 8 p.m. at the Rich Theatre at the High. Tickets are 7 bucks for nonmembers, 6 for students and High museum members.
