First slice 8/29/12: 486,000 without power in Louisiana

Isaac.
1. Hurricane Isaac struck land overnight and is really taking his time traversing the state — meteorologists say it could take the category 1 storm 12 hours to make it from New Orleans north to Baton Rouge. In the meantime, the levee has been overtopped in Plaquemines Parish so deep flooding is expected, a tornado watch is still in effect for southern Louisiana and Mississippi, and more than 486,000 Louisianans are without power.

2. Did you notice that the AJC's website is new and improved? I mostly just noticed that Kroger is having a Labor Day Sale.

3. A Fulton County elementary school teacher resigned after admitting to a having an inappropriate relationship with a student. Luckily (well, not that there's really a "luckily" in cases like these) it wasn't a student from her K through five school, rather a 17 year old from a local high school.

4. Seems to me the real news about the resignation of Kasim Reed's entertainment and special events director isn't that she got a DUI, but that she got a DUI whilst driving a white Porsche. That's a well-paid public servant, methinks.
