Saturday's free Lantern Parade gives an early glimpse at new Beltline Trail

The East Side Trail segment of the Atlanta Beltline officially opens with a dedication on October 15. Atlantans who are curious to get an early peek at the 2.25-mile trail between Inman Park and Piedmont Park can join the Krewe of Grateful Glutton's Lantern Parade, a free Art on the Beltline event, beginning this Saturday, September 8, at at 7:30 p.m.

The Lantern Parade will kick-off with a tailgate party at the intersection of the Eastside Trail and Lake Avenue/Irwin Street at 7:30 p.m. The walk itself will begin at 8:30 p.m. Paraders will walk up the Eastside Trail with lanterns to Piedmont Park where the parade will reach the nearby Park Tavern for a celebration. (Informal carpools and cab-sharing will help participants get back to their cars at the Lake Avenue start of the trail at the end of the evening if need be). For a complete map and guide to the event, visit the Krewe's google map page.

Construction on the trail is on-going so city officials ask that Atlantans refrain from using the trail apart from official Beltline events until the opening and dedication October 15.
