Events Saturday's free Lantern Parade gives an early glimpse at new Beltline Trail

The Lantern Parade will kick-off with a tailgate party at the intersection of the Eastside Trail and Lake Avenue/Irwin Street at 7:30 p.m. The walk itself will begin at 8:30 p.m. Paraders will walk up the Eastside Trail with lanterns to Piedmont Park where the parade will reach the nearby Park Tavern for a celebration. (Informal carpools and cab-sharing will help participants get back to their cars at the Lake Avenue start of the trail at the end of the evening if need be). Construction on the trail is on-going so city officials ask that Atlantans refrain from using the trail apart from official Beltline events until the opening and dedication October 15.
