Dekalb County CEO Burrell Ellis has announced a pilot program reducing housing construction fees, targeting homes where work has stalled for more than 90 days.

In order to jump start stalled residential construction across the county, the new program aims to reduce fees associated with the building permit renewal process, which typically can cost up to an additional $2000. According to the East Atlanta Patch, qualified applicants under the new initiative would only be charged a fee "proportionate to the remaining work needed to complete each home." The AJC also reports that "as many as 2,000 homes" may qualify for these reduced fees, which could be lowered to as little as $500.
Throughout Dekalb County, homeowners unable to complete construction on their homes have sold their properties "as is" to prospective buyers, who in turn finish building these residences. The new process will run for an initial 60-day period, ending on Dec. 28. To find out more information, contact Senior Inspector David Moss at 770-572-4830.
