Creative Loafing’s birthday party and Best of bonanza

CL had a double whammy of a celebration

On Wednesday night, Creative Loafing had a double whammy of a celebration. Not only did we celebrate the release of the 2012 Best of Atlanta issue, but it was also CL’s 40th birthday. We are now officially over the hill. And, after this hangover subsides, we look forward to getting up and going for 40 more, slightly crotchety-er, years. But for now we lie in bed and remember: On a cool, late-summer Wednesday evening, nearly 2,000 Atlantans streamed into the Goat Farm to stuff their faces with delicious samplings of Atlanta’s best local restaurants like Stir It Up, Naanstop, Pura Vida, Morelli’s, Yum Yum Cupcakes and Sweet Auburn BBQ food truck, all while pouring SweetWater down their parched gullets. Then they tromped over to the Goodson Yard performance space and enjoyed musical guests Adron, The Wheeler Boys with Joe McGuinness, Gun Party, and the legendary Arrested Development. In the middle of all of this musical variety, things got cool and beautiful as dance ensemble gloATL performed with singers from the Atlanta Opera. At the end of the evening, people were still dancing to Motown in the Rodriguez Room, spun by legendary DJs Kemit and Karl Injex.
