First Slice 10/11/12: VP royal rumble, going down tonight

America f@*! yeah! Let the debating begin.
1. Last night, Jonesboro city councilmen Joe Compton found himself in Clayton County jail after allegedly driving drunk and hitting a brick mailbox near his home. We’re not pros at this kind of thing, but if you’re going to drive drunk you should probably leave your truck with “Joe Compton city councilman” written on the side at home ... in your garage ... with a club on the steering wheel.

2. The Kroger on Caroline Street in Edgewood closed overnight due to a fire. No word yet when it’ll reopen, but there may be bunch of pre-cooked food on sale when it does (get it?! Because of the fire ... ). In the meantime, please leave your suggestions for nearby places with cheap groceries in the comments.

3. Free pizza for life and $15,600? I’d at least have to consider it.

4. A former Brooks County sheriff earned more than a year in prison for embezzling county funds when he was sentenced in federal court yesterday. According to investigators, Richard Chafin, 59, stole at least $63,000 from the jail’s commissary fund during his tenure as sheriff.

5. There’s another debate tonight, this time between the vice president Joe Biden and the youngin’ looking to take his job, rep. Paul Ryan. The fun starts at 9 p.m.

If you took a gander at any of the number of fact-checking reports that came out after the Denver debate last week you probably noticed something ... apparently, in terms of telling the truth, there’s not much of a difference between either candidate.
