A collection of nine artists who have spent some part of their lives living in the South, explores the concept of home at Emily Amy Gallery's exhibition, Shared Southern Stories. The opening reception is Friday at 7 p.m., this and more after the jump in the weekend arts agenda.

Friday

Suellen Parker at Whitespace Gallery

Suellen Parker creates surrealist photo illustrations that have an almost haunting quality that burns the image into the viewer's mind. Parker's first solo exhibition at Whitespace is titled Letting Go and will open Friday with a reception from 7-10 p.m.

The Creatives Project hosts a celebratory show at the Goat Farm to celebrate the work of its previous six resident artists - Jerushia Graham, Justin Rabideau, Brandon Sadler (the artist behind this week's CL cover), Ashley L. Schick, Marcy Starz, and Nikki Starz - as well as to welcome the new group of artists into the program. Entry on Friday is $20, which covers the cost of an open bar and light bites, from 8-11 p.m.

Saturday

S. Patricia Patterson

S. Patricia Patterson's exhibition Back to the Future at the Swan Coach House Gallery investigates memory by reinventing family moments in photographs, creating new portraits with different meanings. Patterson will hold an artist talk Saturday morning at 11 a.m.

Photographer Tommy Nease will be displaying his collection titled Phantasm at Get This! Gallery. In his unsettling series, Nease's grimy and gritty images resemble frames from horror films. An opening reception will be held at the gallery from 7-10 p.m.
