First Slice 10/26/12: Craigslist home raid

Posted By on Fri, Oct 26, 2012 at 8:19 AM

1. A family said “mayhem” broke out at their Woodstock home after listing a free yard sale ad on Craigslist. The giveaway was supposed to kick-off at 10 a.m. Wednesday morning in the families drive way, but things soon got out of hand with people entering and exiting the home freely, picking up a number of family keepsakes and photos along the way.

2. Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed has employed a high-priced law firm to help quell what he calls libelous statements on a national website, Atlanta Progressive News reports. Members of the forum site allegedly posted comments about Reed’s and other high-level city appointee’s sexual activities and inclinations. The website’s hosting company took the site offline after a cease and desist order from the mayor earlier this month, but Lipstick Alley put the full site back online with a different company.

3. Georgia’s Secretary of State’s office has apparently okayed the “Vote. Win a rifle.” campaign led by Smyrna Adventure Outdoors owner Jay Wallace. The move made national headlines earlier this week as people questioned the legality of the give away.

4. A two-foot leopard shark fell from the sky onto a golf course in San Juan Capistrano, California on Monday. Employees of the San Juan Hills Golf Club, located about five miles from the Pacific Ocean, drove the floundering creature back to the ocean where it was released. Experts says a bird most likely nabbed the shark out of the water, citing punctures wounds near the dorsal fin.
