Weekend Arts Agenda: Elevate Atlanta

Artists converge on the areas of downtown surrounding Underground Atlanta to add life and color to the city's visual landscape in this year's Elevate Art Above Underground. Including contributions from Atlanta's own, HENSE. Mural madness and more after the jump.

FRIDAY

Stop by the intersection of South Broad Street and Mitchell Street throughout today to catch some of the world's most talented graffiti artists painting a worn-in part of Atlanta. Featuring the work of PUSH (pictured above), SEVER (Atlanta), HENSE (Atlanta), BORN (Atlanta), TILT (France). Artists will be painting from 6 to 8 p.m. at various locations along Broad Street.

The Sutra Project is a visual presentation that incorporates dance, live music, and visual art by Gathering Wild dance company. This homage to the Buddhist faith will be performed Friday and Saturday at 8 p.m. at 7 Stages.

MINT Gallery is holding the closing reception for its Leap Year exhibition that features the work of 3 artists from its 2011-2012 emerging artist-mentor program. Participating artist Chelsea Raflo's, who is a talented illustrator, animator and painter, animation video is featured above. The reception will be held from 7-9 p.m. tonight.

SATURDAY

Atlanta's Office of Cultural Affairs
will shut down Broad street to vehicle traffic on Saturday to make way for a block party to celebrate the completion of the 'Elevate' murals in the neighborhood. Food trucks will be on site serving up snacks as the public takes in the new coat of paint to this desperate part of town. The block party will take place from 4-8 p.m.
