First Slice 11/8/12: Healthcaremagedden!

Posted By on Thu, Nov 8, 2012 at 8:09 AM

1. Georgia State University announced it would eliminate 110 positions this week — only 25 of which are currently filled — to save an estimated $4 million. The permanent reduction was spurred, at least in part, by a three percent budget reduction for most state agencies Deal put into place following the economic downturn. A spokesperson for the university said the cuts wouldn’t impact students.

2. Now that the elections are over, on to Healthcaremagedden!

3. Many Atlanta drivers — or at least Atlanta parkers — are holding their collective breath pending the outcome of a new round of negotiations between the City of Atlanta and PARKAtlanta, the private parking enforcement company with a less than stellar reputation. Changes to how the enforcement company would operate include proper signage in parking areas, the ability for citizens to file complaints online, and requiring the company to ensure all parking meters are “operating timely,” Councilman Lamar Willis said. No word yet if the Commuter Dude’s antics had any impact on the decision.

4. A clinic worker down in Statesboro lost her job following Tuesday’s election for dropping the “N-word” and “God Bless the USA!” in the same sentence ... Okay, that wasn’t the reason, but you can probably figure out which part sparked all the controversy.
