Would-be victim thwarts Craigslist robbery at Fourth Ward Skatepark, APD says

An alleged Craigslist robber found himself behind bars after a botched robbery attempt at the Historic Fourth Ward Skatepark yesterday evening.

Khoi Nguyen, 33, agreed to meet another man, 18-year-old Michael Willis, at the park around 7 p.m. to purchase an iPhone 5 listed for sale on Craigslist. During the transaction, Willis - who was selling the phone - pulled a .380-caliber pistol and demanded Nguyen hand over his money and other belongings, according to a report from the Atlanta Police.

Willis then forced Nguyen back into his vehicle where the victim was able to retrieve his own gun, a .45-caliber pistol.

Nguyen chased after the suspect, ordering him to drop his weapon and lay on the ground, according to APD. After firing two warning shots, Nguyen was able to hold Willis until police arrived.

"At this time, Mr. Nguyen has not been charged with any crimes," APD spokesperson Carlos Campos said. "The investigation is ongoing."

Willis was arrested for armed robbery and transported to Fulton County Jail.
