The William Breman Jewish Heritage Museum, as part of the ongoing exhibit "From Swastika to Jim Crow: Jewish Refugee Scholars at Black Colleges," will host a free screening and discussion of the film "Beyond Swastika and Jim Crow" tonight at 6 p.m.

The film tells the story of Jewish academics who fled to America from Germany and Austria during mass persecutions by the Nazis. These educators, or "refugee scholars," became teachers in the historically black colleges of the Jim Crow South and formed bonds with the faculty and students, who had also faced discrimination.

Dr. Joyce Ladner, the first female president of Howard University and a participant in the film, will sit down for a discussion after the screening with Hank Klibanoff, a Pulitzer Prize winning author and former Atlanta Journal-Constitution managing editor. Free. 1440 Spring St. NW 678-222-3700. RSVP here.
