First Slice 12/4/12: Gov. Deal and Mayor Reed discuss 'tag team' partnership, commit to working together

1. It turns out that Nathan Deal and Kasim Reed have quite the political friendship, and both were eager to share the details of their friendship at a Rotary Club of Atlanta lunch program yesterday. The governor called Reed "our greatest asset," while the mayor said that he sees "a leader with a heart for people" when it comes to Deal. That's cute, guys.

2. Over 50 kids and adults exposed to "deadly carbon monoxide levels" at Finch Elementary School were sent to the hospital. Firefighters reported that a leaky furnace emitted 1,700 parts per million, which was "one of the highest that Atlanta fire has ever seen."

3. State Rep. Rusty Kidd will remain an independent, leaving Georgia Republicans just shy of a supermajority in the state House.

4. About 40 Capitol troopers will soon be armed with assault rifles. GSP Col. Mark McDonough told WSB that these rifles were necessary, citing that law enforcement was "outgunned" in a "mean, ugly world."

5. Emory students are holding a walkout today at noon to protest the proposed cuts that were announced in September.

6. The Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport employee responsible for egging the New Orleans Saints' bus last week has resigned.
