News First Slice 12/10/12: Metro Atlantans want more transportation funding, don't trust people they keep electing

Elected officials who think metro Atlantans have no appetite for more transportation funding should look over a new AJC poll. More than two-thirds of the poll's respondents say they'd be willing to pay a fee or new tax to fund transportation. They just don't trust government officials enough to cobble together a plan. Even more interesting: nearly 70 percent of residents from Cobb and Gwinnett counties contacted by pollsters say they support rail service beyond Fulton and DeKalb counties.
Two DeKalb County parents have been slapped with several charges after bringing their middle school-aged daughter to fight at a bus stop. The scuffle was caught on video and posted on YouTube.
Ponce de Leon Avenue between Peachtree and Spring streets is expected to open to two-way traffic today.
State officials are set to meet over a new law that would allow groups seeking an environmental permit to pay a special fee to "expedite the process." The measure aims to resolve the Georgia Environmental Protection Division's backlog by outsourcing the important proposals to private firms. Yep, nothing could go wrong there.
