First Slice 12/13/12: 'It Gets Better'

1. The Atlanta Police Department debuted 'It Gets Better' (above) last night, a sort of public service announcement featuring a number of the department's LGBT officers. Police departments around the country have been releasing similar videos since 2010. The series developed as a response to a rash of suicides by LGBT youth.

2. The Fernbank Science Center's Jim Cherry Memorial Planetarium is getting a fun upgrade. Introducing the super awesome, totally immersive, full-dome projection system! The Center said the new projector won't replace its iconic Zeiss system, but will allow of the planetarium more flexibility in teaching about astronomy.

3. A former Atlanta Police officer must register as a sex offender after being found guilty of sexually assaulting a 13-year-old girl he met on duty. Bernet Collins, 43, landed five years probation for the crime, but no jail time.

4. Word on the street is that former Atlanta Brave and five-time All-Star Andruw Jones is set to sign with the Rakuten Eagles, a team in Japan's Pacific League. Jones, 35, became a free agent after spending the last two years with the New York Yankees.

5. Internet anti-virus software tycoon John McAfee has been "expelled" from the country by Guatemalan authorities and put on a flight to the United States. Associated Press writer Romina Ruiz-Goiriena called it "one of the most highly publicized flights from police questioning since O.J. Simpson led police on televised low-speed car chase." And the saga continues.
